Squareback 66 & VW museum

Beitrag von Carlos Amenda »

Hello!!
I Know I'm a desaparecido but I still need your help.
I've registered my cars (66 squareback) at the VW museum, and this is the result:
Bild
I have difficoulties to translate some parts of it, especially about the upholstery (I don't know what ripsteak means) and the M 449 code about the alleged options, and also I've no idea How original sea send color is....
Anyone can posts some pictures of a 66 sea sand with a original interior  ?
I know..lots of questions but you know is very hard to find something about our cars, also because the most part of informations you can find on THE SAMBA.com are for american versions and sometime there can be some differences with european versions.
Many many thanks in advance for your answers.
Happy new year on your air-cooled.
Carlo

you can ask pepitant: http://www.generation-luftgekuehlt.de/m ... file&u=850

I have no idea about M 449, never heard about.

The code for italian cars must be:
M 34 Starktonhorn und weisse Blinkleuchte vorn 311-318, 343-346, 361-368 Italien
Loud horn and white front flashing indicator

Hello Carlo,

you wrote me a personal message at The Samba, but I prefer answering here.

"sea sand" (or "seesand") in German is a light grey exterior color. You will find a lot of pictures searching at The Samba.

"ripsteak" is the interior (upholstery) color. See brochure here:

Since your car is a "late 66" I believe it does NOT have the brown dashboard, and NOT the brown steering wheel (both is black on your car), so it's a "normal" 1966 Variant as many others.

This is what the original color looks:

Could I help you?

Many thank Jorg I guess that you were the same user that I've found at the Samba :D
I usually check your site but German language is a huge wall for me...
Anyway your pics are really usefull... I love the sea send color and will be a pleasure to make it in mine... but I'm still in doubt about the interior color,
are you telling me the color of my car's interior should be Teak? So if you bought a sea send square/nocht the only coupling available were the teak?
And what about M449?
Thanks

If the outside color is sea sand L568 you had 2 options for the interior:

a) cloth interior: "ripsteak" (code 51) = brown (see brochure above)

b) leatherette interior: "black" (code 80) = black (see brochure above)

That's all there was available.

And what about M449?
I do not have M449 in my list (VW neither, so they say "cannot be identified"). But since VW read their data from 40 year old microfilm (with scratches and stains) they very likely cannot read the exact number, so they probably guess it is M449.

You will have to compare with other Squarebacks from that year to find any differences.

Do you have pictures from your car?
